City: Holland Michigan

Size: 10,000 sq. ft.

Role: Skatepark Designer AND Builder

Year Built: 2011

In 2011, Spohn Ranch was chosen as the skatepark designer and builder for the 10,000 square foot concrete space at Smallenburg Park. The project was our second for the City of Holland, as we successfully completed another 10,000 square foot park at Dirkse Park in 2009.  Officially open for a few weeks now, the park is already generating a lot of hype in the State of Michigan, with skateboarders traveling from across the state to ride one of the area’s most modern skateparks. Lined by large trees, the park has an incredibly inviting aesthetic and feels like a vibrant community gathering space.

Our design process involved collaboration with a local landscape architect, as well as design workshops with the local skaters who we’ve come to know very well through our work on Holland’s David Dirkse Skatepark.

Spohn Ranch Skateparks: Design. Build. Come together.

NEW WEBSITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Spohn Ranch began as a community, anchored by Aaron’s backyard half-pipe, and grew into a renowned nationwide skatepark design/build firm. The creative culture of Aaron’s backyard gave birth to many companies, careers and artistic creations, including Spohn Ranch’s original “S” logo and red, white and blue color scheme. It’s treated us well over the past twenty years - becoming an iconic symbol of skatepark innovation and ingenuity.

We are always evolving though, and after 20 years of successful business, we felt it was finally time that the graphic look and feel of our brand evolve as well. Over the past several months, our team has been working hard to find new ways to express our company spirit and values, culminating in a new and improved Spohn Ranch brand.

We’re eager to unveil our new look, but one of the most involved parts of the rebranding effort – the website – is still a few months from completion. In the meantime, we hope you’ll stay connected as we embark on an exciting journey in 2013.

It will be a big year for us as we continue to push the limits of skatepark design and construction with sculptural masterpieces across the globe. The first phases of our biggest project ever, over 400,000 square feet of design/build will also be coming to fruition in the mountains of West Virginia this year.

What we’re most excited about though, is that our skateparks will continue to help us achieve our grander vision - tearing down walls, forging communities and bringing people together.
