Bethune point skatepark
City: Daytona Beach, Florida
Size: 16,000 sq. ft.
Year Built: 2009
Set beautifully in front of the water on the Florida coastline, the Bethune Point Skatepark in Daytona Beach is a world-class action sports facility. Utilizing integrated landscaping and Skateable Art elements throughout the park makes this much more than a skatepark – it is a vibrant recreational space for anyone to appreciate and enjoy. On opening day, Daytona Beach’s Recreation Director, Percey Williamson, declared this park “the finest skatepark in the country”. With professional skateboarders and contest circuits already set to visit the park, the skaters of Daytona Beach feel a deep sense of pride in their local skatepark.
The park was designed with Pillar Design Studios and built through a combination of pre-cast and poured-in-place concrete. By utilizing the advantages of each system, the City of Daytona Beach truly got the best of both worlds. The park itself features a shotcrete bowl finished with pool tile coping, multi-level plaza sections, and the street-style elements that skaters really love. Some of the more unique features in this park are the grass gaps created by the integrated landscaping and the Skateable Art features such as the Roll-over Whip and the Bent Penny. Another Skateable Art piece, the Broken Pyramid, anchors the lower plaza level, providing a compelling centerpiece and letting skaters smoothly flow to any corner of the park. With something for everyone, this creatively designed skatepark ensures that skaters will never run out of lines or new ways to skate the park.
