Uninspired by their dilapidated metal ramp park, the skaters of West Chicago approached the City with a plan for transforming their existing facility into a modern concrete skatepark. Joining forces with the local skateboard community, Spohn Ranch began work a new design based on flowing concrete terrain and features that would have been impossible with a metal ramp system.
With the concrete design finalized, Spohn Ranch utilized state-of-the-art construction methods to swiftly transform the aging metal ramp park into a timeless facility that the skaters loved. The park features a horseshoe bowl which flows into the street section of the park, where skaters can hit the stairs or grind down the hubba ledges and handrails. Once the final landscaping surrounding the park was completed, the skatepark fit beautifully within the larger park. What used to be a community eyesore was now a vibrant space that the City could embrace as one of Reed Park’s most popular attractions.
