skatepark Insurance

While most municipalities and public entities are partially protected from skatepark liability by state laws and existing insurance, there are significant benefits to specialty skatepark insurance.  Imperfect legislation and high-deductible municipal insurance policies can leave significant gaps in coverage, and create unwanted exposure to risk.

insuranceThrough our skatepark management affiliate, Action Park Alliance, we have worked closely with major underwriters of skatepark insurance to develop coverage plans that appropriately cover action sports activities and are cost-effective.  Additionally, our proprietary Risk Assessment Program is used throughout the industry to calculate each facility’s liability score and develop a customized plan for minimizing liability and the potential for injuries and claims.

Even if your municipal skatepark is covered by the City’s general insurance policy, APA’s insurance program provides three important benefits:

1. The insurance acts as gap insurance, covering the large deductible typical of municipal insurance.  If a claim is made against a City policy, often the deductible can be so large that the entire claim must be paid out of pocket.  The APA insurance policy has very low deductibles, which can cover the entire City deductible in case of a claim.

2. The insurance provides coverage of medical costs for uninsured or underinsured skatepark users.  Parents of uninsured youth seeking to recover medical costs due to minor injuries are the primary group filing lawsuits against municipalities.  This means that a broken arm or chipped tooth will not lead to costly and time-consuming litigation.

3. The insurance program can now cover unsupervised skatepark facilities in addition to supervised facilities.
