Ramp Parks

Boost_Street_2When Spohn Ranch launched action sports into the mainstream with the design and construction of the X-Games competition courses, municipalities began approaching us about building facilities in their parks.  Unsure of how long skateboarding’s popularity would last, most municipalities were weary of building permanent concrete parks.  For many, a less-permanent solution was transforming an under-utilized concrete/asphalt slab into a collection of ramps, rails and grind boxes.  This style of skatepark was defined by half-pipes, a back-and-forth flow and equipment made of wood, steel or composite materials.

For years, this style of park served hundreds of communities and bred a new generation of well-rounded skateboarders.  As the sport continued to evolve though, many skaters sought out more challenging and diverse terrain than their local ramp park was providing.  As skateboarding grew in popularity and eventually earned a top spot among the nation’s top recreational activities, it was also becoming clear that a permanent concrete facility could be a valuable investment for a community to make.

IMG_4902With a proven track record of success, ramp parks continue to be a great option for communities who are seeking a traditional layout that will simultaneously satisfy skateboarders, BMX bike riders and inline skaters.  In general, Spohn Ranch advocates for ramp parks in the following situations:

-  Communities with small budgets and an existing concrete slab in good condition

-  Indoor skateparks where frequent reconfiguration keeps riders motivated

-  Competition courses for special events

As the most established ramp builder in the nation, Spohn Ranch continues to perfect all of our product lines, ensuring that if a ramp park is the best fit for your community, you’ll be providing your skaters with the highest-quality equipment.
