SPOHN RANCH BUILDS ARMADA A DREAM COME TRUE

Armada Township, an hour north of Detroit, Michigan, is now how home to a “dream come true” for local residents Jacob Gritzinger and Tyler Ross who spent nearly a decade advocating for a public skatepark.

“It brings tears to eyes,” said Gritzinger. “It really does.”

The Armada skate park location is 75400 North Avenue Armada, MI 48005

Spohn Ranch was selected as the Township’s skatepark designer and builder in 2016, then led a skatepark design process that involved collaboration with local skateboarders and BMX bike riders.

After executing a methodical construction process, the finished product is 6,000 square feet of smooth concrete with Spohn Ranch’s signature blend of street and transition-style terrain. The skatepark features a transition section with heights ranging from 4-7.5′, a spine, a hitching post and multiple extensions. The open-ended bowl feeds a modern street course featuring an a-frame, a handful of ledges and double set with hubba and handrail.

We also custom fabricated the letters “ARMADA” and embedded them into one of the skatepark’s concrete embankments – a lasting testament to community pride.

We sent photographer Alex Regish to document local skateboarders getting to know the skatepark. Local photographer David Ezzos has also been providing drone photos/videos throughout the construction process and summarized the project in this great video to be posted soon.
