Our process
At Spohn Ranch we take great pride in leading skatepark projects from the conceptual planning stages all the way through to the contests, demos, and skate camps that become a part of everyday life at our skateparks. The skateparks we build are about much more than installing a few ramps and leaving town. For us, it’s about watching kids transform into young adults as they become involved in the civic process, seeing a skatepark bring a community together, and most of all, being amazed at the high-flying stunts we see in the photos and videos that kids send to us.
Whether your vision is a destination complex or a small neighborhood skate spot, our aim is to create a unique space that celebrates skateboarding, but most importantly, makes sense for your community’s needs. All Spohn Ranch projects begin with our comprehensive, time-tested skatepark development process.
Information gathering – We assess potential sites and identify budgets, potential challenges, and most importantly, the needs of your target area.
Concept Development – We create the vision for your skatepark and use it as a guide throughout our process.
Schematic Design – We create multiple line drawings showing potential directions for the skatepark. Boundary lines, elevation changes and varying skill-level areas are identified. Our signature cost estimating system is employed to ensure we are staying on budget.
Community Involvement - We engage the local skateboard community and help translate their ideas into real-world solutions.
Conceptual design – We turn our drawings into 3D models and began to create the specific features within the skatepark.
Asset generation – We create high-quality renderings, video fly-throughs and other materials to assist with fundraising and grants.
Design Development – We collaborate with City officials, landscape architects and engineers to integrate the skatepark within the site.
Construction Documents – We prepare a full set of construction documents, ensuring the end result is consistent with our original vision.
Fabrication – We utilize our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to fabricate steel edging/coping, grind rails, screeds and stop forms.
Construction – Our full-time staff of skatepark contractors builds the skatepark with a relentless dedication to finish and detail.
Grand opening – We assist with athlete coordination, sponsorship, product giveaways and anything else related to a successful grand opening.
Staff, Insure and Program – If deemed appropriate, we can operate the skatepark via our sister company, the Action Park Alliance.
As the first licensed and bonded municipal skatepark builder in the United States, we have seen it all when it comes to skateparks.
