Final designs for Suffolk, VA’s two skate spots

Recipient of the Tony Hawk Foundation’s $10,000 skatepark grant, the City of Suffolk will soon be the home of two concrete skate spots, designed and built by Spohn Ranch. The City was originally considering one concrete park and one modular steel park, but with our industry expertise, we were able to steer both parks toward concrete – ensuring the long term success of these facilities.

At roughly 6,000 square feet, the Lake Meade site will become a vibrant community space where skaters can enjoy modern plaza terrain. By incorporating landscaping into the park, we helped regulate the traffic flow and made the space feel much bigger than it actually is. At the smaller Bennet’s Creek site, we designed a horseshoe bowl that simultaneously functions as a mini-ramp and rounded out the spot with same basic street features. Construction begins in 2 weeks!

  1. The Lake Meade Park looks like it could have real good flow. I am excited about that park. The Bennett’s Creek park looks a little underwhelmed but it is close to my house and looks like it could be a good place to warm up. I know it’s too late but I would have suggested switching the locations. There are more skaters in the northern section of Suffolk and more skaters would/will visit the Bennett’s Creek Park. Anyways, good luck on construction, any chance we will be seeing blueprints with specs?
