Mission Accomplished: Ocean City Skatepark Build

Even before a single ounce of concrete had been poured, many proclaimed the Cape May County Skatepark in Ocean City would become the best skatepark in the State of New Jersey. When the construction dust settled and local skateboarders got their first taste of flowing lines and smooth concrete, those early proclamations rang true.

The Spohn Ranch field crew matched the dedication of our skatepark design team with flawless construction. Acting as prime contractor, we executed every facet of the skatepark build – from drainage and earthwork through steel fabrication and concrete. We also employed a “green” approach during the demolition phase by milling the old parking lot asphalt and re-purposing it as base material.

After a grand opening event in late September, the skatepark, located at Asbury Avenue and 6th Street, is now open from 9 a.m to dusk each day.

At the event, Councilman Mike DeVlieger, declared the project an overwhelming success, “I saw big kids, little kids, adults, experienced skaters, inexperienced skaters all having fun. They were all collaborating and all working together, and that’s what it’s all about.”

He also added, “The park is a healthy alternative for people who don’t excel in traditional sports activities.”

Thank you to Mike, the City of Ocean City and Cape May County for inviting us to take part in the revitalization of Ocean City’s skateboarding community. We look forward to watching it thrive for decades to come.
