Spohn Ranch Breaks Ground On New Castaic Skatepark

After several months of permitting and paperwork with the County of Los Angeles, Spohn Ranch’s design/build project at the Castaic Sports Complex is off to the races, with a target completion of December.

The Castaic Skatepark will occupy a horseshoe pit area just north of the Sports Complex, right off Interstate 5 and about 10 miles north of Santa Clarita.

A complex web of underground utilities, easements and tree root systems meant we couldn’t dig down and led to the development of an above-grade, pathway style skatepark design. An elevated section at the skatepark’s entrance leads into a series of pathways that wrap around existing trees and are lined with stairs, ledges, manual pads and grind rails. Transition elements anchor the corners and help riders flow through the space.

The skatepark design also spares no expense when it comes to amenities. The full spectrum of site amenities, including shade, seating, a drinking fountain, a bike rack and an LED lighting system will ensure the long-term success of the facility as a community gathering space.

Skateboarders that prefer bowls shouldn’t fret – the Castaic Skatepark is just the first of two projects Spohn Ranch is designing and building for the County. As soon as we finish in Castaic, our team of specialty skatepark craftsmen will head over to Lancaster to build the George Lane Skatepark – a 15,000 square foot skatepark featuring a bowl and snake run.

Stay tuned for construction updates on both projects!
